Eggnog Cocktail

Eggnog

A lot of people hear the word eggnog and squint their faces in disgust. Often we think of the gross, thick, heavy mixture you can find in cartons at the supermarket. The interesting thing is that most people who don’t like eggnog have never tried anything else but the supermarket version! In contrast a homemade eggnog is a delicious creation that's light and creamy with Christmas imbued into it. You don't have to put tons of heavy cream! A combination of milk and just a little bit of heavy cream will make a light and delicious drink that won’t sit on your stomach like a brick. This is my version of eggnog: In a shaker add :
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.75 oz Vanilla Cinnamon Syrup
  • 0.5 oz Calvados
  • 0.5 oz Hennessy Cognac
  • 1 oz Zacapa 23 Rum
  • 0.25 Bar spoon of nutmeg
Dry shake this first then add :
  • 0.5 oz Heavy cream
  • 1.5 oz Milk
Dry shake the mixture again and then shake it with ice. Strain into an Irish Coffee mug. Garnish the drink with grated nutmeg and a star anise. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less syrup. If you don’t have a vanilla-cinnamon syrup you can use a simple syrup instead.
By using different spirits you bring different flavor profiles and finishes into your eggnog. I love to use the combination of rum, cognac and calvados, but feel free to experiment with different spirits!
If you would like you can batch this drink and store it in the refrigerator for your party.
Cheers! Happy Holidays!!!
